Jonny May says England room-mate Ruaridh McConnochie is ready for his Test debut following two previous false starts due to injuries.
Hip and hamstring injuries saw McConnochie pulled from the starting XV on the eve of the home and away World Cup warm-up Tests against Wales each month, but the Bath wing is still likely to feature on Friday against Italy in Newcastle, live on Sky Sports.
Eddie Jones will announce his staff for the last match of this buildup to Japan 2019 afternoon and will also be expected to mention Anthony Watson at full-back.
Occupying the wing to sevens pro McConnochie, who won a silver medal will be the player with whom he’s been rooming at camp.
May explained:»It has been rough for Ruaridh. Before we played with Wales, he had been upset about the Fridays. Other than that he got on with it.
«The people around you possess an influence on you so for him to not mope around is a credit to him.
«That’s probably one reason Eddie enjoys him. He’s still adding to the group if he’s not playing.
«I am really excited for him to get out to the pitch. It must have been difficult for him but he is ready. Once he gets out to the pitch he’ll do exactly what he does.
«He is healthy and he is powerful. That’s a sevens item or maybe. He breaks tackles because he’s used to all those one-on-ones although we haven’t done much contact stuff here.
«I have advised him to’care for yourself, be clever, do not shove it’. Then I’ll help him if we needs a chat the best that I can. He is here for a reason.
«He has had a brilliant season with Toilet, got experience at an Olympic Games and he is a really excellent man. He’s going to do well»
