Netball moves to Birmingham’s NEC for 2022 Commonwealth Games

The increase in popularity of netball has seen its place is moved by this 2022 Commonwealth Games’ organisers from Coventry.
On September 3, the shift in position was declared by Birmingham 2022 once that they left a routine review of venues almost two years from their own bid.
The upswing in netball’s profile has been the driving force behind the change. The manner in which the Netball World Cup was received in the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool will have further highlighted the capability to draw fans in of the sport.
England will take to the court at 2022 as the defending champions following their triumph on the Gold Coast this past year and back to home ground, expectations for achievement will be higher.
«We are thrilled by Birmingham 2022’s choice to relocate netball for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and fully support this choice,» said Liz Nicholl CBE, president of the International Netball Federation.
«While the Coventry Arena Is a Great venue, this move to the NEC will raise the potential significantly,»
«This [increased capability ] will be welcomed with the netball family and the significant fan base which our sport now attracts, as seen in the recent Netball World Cup in July 2019 when over 110,000 tickets were sold.»
The Commonwealth Games will be held in venues across Birmingham and the West Midlands from July 27 until August 2, 2022.
